Amazon.com Product Description
Learning to walk is a joyful event, and the Chomp & Clack Alligator Push Toy from Melissa & Doug makes it even more fun. With a colorful swamp scene and sturdy construction, this handcrafted wooden toy serves as a playful, dependable tool to help children ages one and up work on motor skills, develop hand-eye coordination, and take their first steps.
Learn to Walk with the Animals
The Chomp & Clack Alligator Push Toy encourages exploration and discovery with a playful, brightly colored swamp scene. Three green gators in a blue pool are the centerpieces of the toy, and each of the four wheels features a multicolored fish that appears to be swimming as the wheels turn.
A wooden handle extends from the back of the base and includes colorful details of cattails and butterflies on its supports. Butterfly and ladybug beads attached to the supports are fun for little hands to slide and spin.
Designed to Encourage Movement and Discovery
The toy's design helps teach motor skills as well as basic cause and effect. With each step your child takes, the alligators take turns opening and closing their mouths with a gentle clacking noise. The alligators' noise and animation encourages movement and development of gross motor skills, while spinnable, slidable beads on the handle supports help improve fine motor skills.
In addition, the toy promotes agility, balance, and exercise. The handle is simple to grab and hold, so your little one can steer the push toy in straight lines or along wandering paths. Non-skid wheels let your child walk along smooth surfaces without moving too fast or leaving any unsightly marks on your floor. The wheels also allow your waddler to move forward and backward without veering off course or getting stuck.
Durable, Dependable Handcrafted Construction
The Chomp & Clack Alligator Push Toy is handcrafted and hand sanded from select hardwood and made with nontoxic dyes and paints. Measuring 15 by 11-3/4 by 15 inches (H x W x D), the toy is wide and weighty enough to give wobbly babies the support they need to fearlessly take their first steps. Tiny hands can easily grasp the raised handlebar. The push toy requires adult assembly, which is simple to do with only a Phillips-head screwdriver.
While our testers were pleased by the overall construction of the toy, they did note that the three cutouts in which the alligators move are a little rough at the edges. This was not an issue during testing, but parents should keep an eye out for possible splinters.

She was walking in no time. I love how stable it is. It keeps them from going too fast and flipping it over. Still love it! May 6, 2010 - My 9 month old daughter LOVES this toy. She is so amazed to be mobile. Right now, she can only manage to push it in a straight line. It seems hard to maneuver for beginning walkers. Luckily, we have an open floor plan so she can go right from the living room through the kitchen into the dining room before she has to stop and turn around. I can see her using this for awhile though... putting dollies on it and pushing them around. She wants to play with it every day and gets upset when she can't. Durability: So far we have had no problems. I read reviews that complained that the handle bar comes unglued. The version I received has a screw holding the handle bar in place. We've had it for a month and no defects... When this cart arrived, I could barely get it together fast enough, he was so excited with it visually! The crocodiles are adorable, they don't clack loudly at all. The cart is designed so it won't tip backwards very easily, so my son can pull up on it to walk. He gets just the right speed for his age on our carpet, not too fast. Very bright and such a nice alternative to the plastic junk you see. Something you'd want to hold onto for awhile. And the price is great at $26. here on amazon. 29 of 33 people found the following review helpful: Dangerous! Poorly consrtucted., By = Durability: = Fun: = Educational: I was happy with this until the top bar came loose just a few days after we bought it! My 20 month old fell forward and landed with his neck on one of the vertical parts. It was terrible, and all because their glue didn't hold. If you buy this, please screw the top bar in place so this doesn't happen to you. This is not the only Melissa and Doug toy we have had glue issues with. Not recommended. |
